Meet Nazneen Yasin: Hello! I’m a therapist at Olive Branch Therapy Group and a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW). I received my undergraduate degree from DePaul University in Chicago, IL. I received my graduate degree in Social Work from Rutgers University. I’ve been in practice since 2017.
My Therapy Specialties:
I specialize in working with individuals, teens, parents, young adults, and adults of all ages. I utilize Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), and the empowerment model. I work with all cultures, faiths, and orientations. I am fluent in Urdu and Hindi.
What drew me to this work:
I have always felt drawn to people’s stories and understanding what makes them who they are. For as long as I can remember, I have been someone that felt a calling to help others through tough times.
My style: I am a conversationalist, and am empathetic, warm and have a sensor of humor. I believe you are the expert in you and I work collaboratively with you to help you figure out what your future goals could be. I also enjoy teaching coping skills and ways to alter your perspective and thought process to help you find relief from difficult thoughts and feelings. Often, I utilize a white board to map out events, issues in your head, and help you visualize possible solutions and paths towards peace.

What is Perfectionism?

It’s actually hurting you instead of helping you succeed & what you can do. Perfectionism is the belief that if we do things perfectly we can avoid pain that comes from blame, judgment, and shame. It’s  about approval, not self-improvement , and it seems that there is never an end point or a sense of relief when we’re stuck in perfectionism. Research shows that perfectionism, despite what we possibly feel hampers achievement, is correlated with  depression, anxiety, addiction and missed opportunities  (Brené Brown). We learn the habit of perfectionism through messages we receive from school, family, friends, social media, and society. Grief - Tending a Broken Heart

We are human beings. We are in a constant state of flux and change, and with that, we may experience a tremendous amount of loss. Death loss is the one that is most validated. However, death loss, is not the only loss one can experience in this lifetime. In fact, according to the Holmes-Rahe Inventory, there are over 40 plus events in life that can produce feelings of grief and loss. Some of those being: Major Health Changes, Financial Changes (a decrease and even an increase in wealth), Getting Married, Getting Divorced, Loss of a Friendship, Death of a Pet, Starting or Ending of School, Empty Nest, Retirement, and when working with grief clients, I find many losses start off in the home…..Loss of Trust, Loss of Sense of Safety. The question is: If we know this, through the centuries, why is it we are so ill equipped to recover from grief?
